Italian Prime Minister: We look forward to strengthening ties with Egypt... and we commend the ongoing communication and coordination with President Sisi

ASA –

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni affirmed her desire to strengthen relations with Egypt, praising the ongoing communication and coordination with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, which has helped to boost bilateral relations between Egypt and Italy, especially since enhancing ties between the two countries is a shared goal.

This came during a meeting today (Sunday) between Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, on the sidelines of his participation—on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi—in the International Conference on Migration and Development in the Italian capital, Rome.

The meeting was attended by Bassam Rady, Egypt’s ambassador to Rome, and Ambassador Ehab Badawi, Assistant Foreign Minister for Multilateral Affairs and International Security.

Meloni thanked Egypt for its high-level participation in the International Migration Conference.

She added that she knew today was a special day for Egypt and the Egyptian people, as it marks the country’s National Day, and so the Italian Prime Minister extended her congratulations to Egypt—its leadership and people—on the anniversary of the July 23 Revolution.

The Italian Prime Minister highlighted the many areas in which joint projects could be established with Egypt, noting that the coming period will see intensified efforts to strengthen bilateral relations in all relevant fields.

For his part, the Prime Minister thanked Meloni for inviting Egypt to participate in this important conference, noting the critical importance of the migration issue in Egypt, especially given that the country is hosting nearly 9 million migrants and refugees.

Madbouly also conveyed President Sisi’s regards to the Italian Prime Minister and expressed his hope that she would visit Egypt soon to build on the current momentum in bilateral relations, for the benefit of the peoples of both countries.

Madbouly added that “Italy is Egypt’s top trading partner in the European Union and the fourth largest globally, and we look forward to strengthening cooperation in the fields of petrochemicals and natural gas, as well as establishing power interconnections to transmit renewable energy from Egypt to Italy and from there to the rest of Europe.”

The Prime Minister also referred to the outcomes of the important visit to Egypt by the Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, who led a large delegation of heads and representatives of major Italian companies, particularly in the fields of agriculture, irrigation, and food processing—all areas in which we look forward to strengthening cooperation with Italy.

At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed that Ambassador Bassam Rady, Egypt’s Ambassador to Rome, would provide the Italian side with details of the projects proposed for implementation between the two countries in the coming period, so that they could be reviewed, agreement could be reached on which projects to launch, and the implementation phases could be determined.
