The “Arab Council for Health Specialties” and the “World Eye Health Foundation” are shaping a new future for medical professionals

In a strategic move that puts Arab medical professionals on the path to global recognition, the Arab Board of Medical Specialties signed a historic memorandum of understanding with the International Society of Ophthalmology during a signing ceremony held at the Board’s headquarters in Cairo, marking the beginning of a new phase of international cooperation aimed at modernizing the medical education and training system in the field of ophthalmology and eye surgery in accordance with the highest internationally recognized standards.

This agreement reflects the Arab Council’s vision of building transcontinental bridges of cooperation with leading scientific institutions. The partnership is directly aimed at developing educational curricula to keep pace with the rapid technological advances in ophthalmology, as well as updating training methods and examinations, ensuring that graduates possess professional competence on par with their counterparts at the world’s leading medical centers.

The partnership also aims to promote continuous professional development through advanced training programs that help raise the standard of healthcare services provided in the Arab world.

The signing ceremony was attended by a notable group of leaders from the medical and academic communities, led by Dr. Adel Al-Adawi, President of the Executive Office of the Arab Board of Health Specialties and former Egyptian Minister of Health, and David Beut, President of the World Eye Health Foundation.

Also in attendance on behalf of the Arab Council were Dr. Essam Al-Toukhi, Director of Training; Dr. Ahmed Al-Taoudi, Director of the Cairo Office; and Dr. Ahmed Othman, Chair of the Continuing Professional Development Committee.

Via the video conferencing platform Zoom, Dr. Omar Al-Rawas, Secretary-General of the Arab Board of Health Specialties, and Dr. Yousra Haddah, Chair of the Scientific Board for Ophthalmology, participated in this landmark event, underscoring the great importance the Board attaches to this partnership.
This new collaboration serves as a testament to the international confidence in the role played by the Arab Council as a leading regional authority. By combining the global expertise of the World Eye Health Organization with the Council’s well-established academic infrastructure, both parties aim to bring about a qualitative leap in the quality of medical training, ensuring that Arab ophthalmologists reach the highest levels of academic and professional excellence.

This partnership underscores the Arab Board of Health Specialties’ continued role as a driving force in improving the efficiency of Arab health systems, with a dual focus on the interests of both Arab physicians and patients.
